Archer Avenue and Ashland Avenue Improvement

Chastain provided construction engineering services for the removal of the Archer Avenue Bridge over Ashland Avenue, and removal and replacement of the bridge carrying Archer Avenue over the South Fork of the South Branch of the Chicago River. The viaduct was replaced with an at grade intersection with substantial utility relocations and drainage improvements.

This $13.6 million construction project included:

  • Complete removal of the Archer Avenue Bridge over Ashland Avenue.
  • Replacement of the bridge carrying Archer Avenue over the South Fork of the South Branch of the Chicago River.
  • New dedicated access to I-55.
  • New and replacement traffic signals with fiber optic interconnection.
  • New lighting.
  • Complete roadway reconstruction.
  • New sidewalks.
  • New curbs and gutters.
  • New mainline drainage.
