Chastain performed Phase II design services for the preparation of design plans for three bridges in I-355 interchange. Chastain was a subconsultant to Crawford Murphy and Tilly, Inc. for the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.

Details for the $9.8 million construction project for the bridges only included:

  • I-355 over International Parkway. Single span, 60” deep web, plate Girder Bridge with vaulted abutments having 36” PPC I-beams. Main span is 129’ 9”. Total width of the deck is 142’ 2”.
  • I-355 over Ramp 1-N. Single span, 54” deep web, plate Girder Bridge with integral abutments. Span is 119’. The total width of the deck is 129’ 2”.
  • Ramp 1-N over I-55. Two span curved girder flyover ramp with spans of 180’ and 174’ which connects two interstate highways. Provisions were made for an additional girder and future deck widening. The ramp was on a radius of 782’ with a web depth of 72”. The total width of the deck is 37’ 2”.
