I-90 & IL 173 Interchange

Chastain supplied Phase III construction engineering services for a new full access, four-ramp interchange on new alignments. The construction included ramp pavements, embankments, reconstruction of two bridges, new toll plazas, retaining walls and highway lighting.
Additional elements included in the project:
- Construction on IL 173 included widening 1.7 miles from a two-lane rural highway to a six-lane urban roadway with a raised two-lane wide concrete median.
- Four new signalized intersections were constructed to control the traffic entering and exiting the Tollway and local roads along IL 173.
- Construction also included new toll plazas, retaining walls, street lighting, regional detention ponds, signing, and pavement markings.
- Chastain prepared documentation required by IDOT, provided Level I and II bituminous concrete materials testing and asphalt plant inspection.
- Construction cost was $19.2 million.
