I-94 Bishop Ford Expressway

Chastain provided Phase II design engineering services for the preparation of multiple contract plans,
specifications and cost estimates for the resurfacing, roadway repairs, and bridge repairs to 13 structures along I-94.
The total project length was 9.3 miles. The Bishop Ford Expressway has an Average Daily Traffic of 157,000 vehicles which
presented many challenges for the construction staging, which Chastain was also responsible for developing.
This IDOT, District One fast-track project utilized ARRA funding. Structures included in this project
were I-94 NB and SB over RR & Woodlawn Avenue; I-94 NB and SB at 103rd Street; I-94 NB at Stoney Island Avenue ramp; I-94 at
Service Drive; I-94 at MC RR; I-94 NB and SB at Little Calumet River Steel Bridge; I-94 at Little Calumet River; I-94 at IHB
& B&O RR; I-94 at Dolton Avenue; and I-94 at Greenwood Avenue & RR. In an evaluation from IDOT they noted, "…The consultant
is responsive to issues and concerns of the project. This was especially evident in their ability to make late plan modifications
to address the Department's concerns about the guardrails." Project was completed in 2009 with a construction cost of $27.8 million.
