IL 40 Over the Rock River
Whiteside County, IL
Chastain completed a Phase I study for the complete removal and replacement of a 12 span bridge carrying IL 40 over the Rock River between Sterling and Rock Falls. The project also includes the realignment and profile of the approach roadways. The project included geometric studies to provide a wider proposed bridge in a constrained urban area. The bridge has buildings located directly adjacent to it at both ends of the structure.
Chastain was among the first consultants in District Two to incorporate Context Sensitive Solution principals to achieve community consensus regarding design features. Chastain was also the first consultant to prepare a Transportation Management Plan (TMP) for a District Two project.
IDOT, District Two evaluated our Phase I performance as "Good" and stated "Key Personnel did a good job of handling the CSS requirement of this project. They also responded well when a TMP requirement was added before submittal of the project report." Chastain is in the progress of completing Phase II design.
