Lake Dredging Project Basin 1
Decatur, IL
This project originally began as a group of tasks to develop a dredging site for Basin 1 in Lake Decatur, the basin where water is drawn to be treated at the South Water Treatment Plant. The project developed into an effort to not only site a dredge basin, but to consider alternate sources of water and to develop a plan to increase the water storage capacity for the community to offset extended periods of drought.
The study summarized all previous studies and the importance of the lake to the Decatur community, reviewed prior recommendations, and prioritized current recommendations.
The study addressed two major purposes. The first one is to develop, analyze, and recommend concepts or combinations of concepts, resulting in approximately 10,000 acre-feet of additional water supply to Lake Decatur. This would provide an adequate supply of water during a 6-month, 25-year drought recurrence interval. The second purpose is to identify the various sediment disposal methods, sites, uses, and recommend the most viable solution.
