Milmine, IL
Chastain provided professional engineering services for the 1,500 foot extension of an existing rail siding to the east of the Milmine grain elevator in Milmine, Illinois. Improvements included design and layout for a 100 car storage yard (two tracks holding 50 cars each). Chastain provided topographic survey, geometric design of rail siding, plan preparation, specifications, quantity calculations, and construction staking. This project also involved the design and construction layout of an additional 2,000 foot long rail siding consisting of three tracks. Work also included coordination with the Norfolk Southern Railroad, Piatt County Highway Department and local Township Road Commissioner. A township road parallels with the proposed siding and high fills to meet the mainline rail grade required careful attention to the roadway ditch drainage. Utility relocation was required to allow for the placement of embankment.
