Richmond Avenue Bridge

Chastain provided design and construction engineering services for the removal and replacement of the Richmond Avenue Bridge over CN Railroad. The bridge was replaced with a 3-span, pre-stressed concrete superstructure, cast-in-place piers and retained earth abutments on concrete caissons.
The project was constructed with Illinois Central Railroad Grade Crossing funds, IDOT-Class II Highway funds, Major Bridge Construction funds and local matching funds.
The $1.1 million construction project included:
- Complete removal and replacement of the Richmond Avenue Bridge.
- Approach roadway, storm sewer and intersection improvements.
- Preparation of the project development report, TS&L drawings, contract plans, specifications and estimates.
- Coordination with IDOT, FHWA, Illinois Central Railroad and the City of Mattoon.
